Lady Dawgs sweep Brownwood

The Lady Dawgs’ most recent contests were held Friday night on the road at Brownwood. All three of Burnet’s teams defeated the Lady Lions to improve their records. The varsity girls tallied a 3-2 win against a quality team. Burnet dropped the first set, 22-25, won sets two and three 25-23, but came up short in the fourth game 20- 25 to force a set five. That game also turned out to be close with the Lady Dawgs edging out Brownwood 15- 11 for the match win.

The JV Lady Dawgs improved their overall record to 12-1 with a two-game sweep of the Lady Lions, 25-12, 25-14.

It took three sets for Burnet’s freshman to earn a win, but they persevered coming out on top, 19-25, 25-12, 25-9.

The varsity team has found themselves in numerous five-set battles this season. On Friday, Aug. 28 Burnet played out five sets against Fredericksburg eventually coming up short in the fifth game, 8-15. The girls lost sets one and two, 21-25, 17-25 before battling back to tie things up 2-2 with 25-21, 25-12 wins in sets three and four.

The JV girls also found a challenge against Fredericksburg. They won the contest, but it took three sets, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23.

On Tuesday, Sept.1 the Lady Dawgs hosted Llano. The varsity girls had little trouble defeating the Lady Jackets in sweep fashion, 25- 12, 25-12, 25-19. The JV girls followed suit, 25-12, 25-10. “We have been going

“We have been going strong for almost a month now,” said varsity head coach Crystal Shipley. “I am beyond proud of the work ethic and growth our teams have shown so far.”

As of presstime the varsity girls were 5-8, JV 12-1, and freshman 11-2.

Burnet’s girls hosted Brownwood on Tuesday night and will be at Lampasas this Friday. Following those matches they only have one non-district game remaining on the schedule when Blanco comes to Burnet on Sept. 18. District play begins at home versus Lake Belton on Sept. 22.
