Not all pretty, but it’s all good

I’m going to start with the varsity Lady Dawg volleyball team. These ladies have had some set-backs and dropped a few matches along the way that they wish they could redo, but our Lady Dawgs took care of business against a quality Brownwood Lady Lions team Friday to add a nice W to their resume.

As a matter of fact, all of our Lady Dawg teams got wins in Brownwood. As of presstime the varsity girls had a 5-8 record, our JV ladies boast a 12-1 record, and the freshman girls have an impressive 11-2 mark. Way to go coaches and way to go Lady Dawgs!

How about our Bulldog football teams?

All of the BHS football teams remain undefeated at 2-0. Attawaytogo guys!

It wasn’t all pretty in Gonzales Friday night; there were some drops, bobbles, unnecessary penalties, punting issues and some lop-sided officiating at times but the guys in green still got the job done.

Before this Friday night’s contest, the Bulldogs will need to tidy things up a bit because the Boerne Greyhounds will be their biggest test thus far.

Friday night is our No.14 Bulldogs versus No.15 Boerne Greyhounds. I’m hoping to see at least a packed house by COVID rules of course.

My understanding is that 1,500 people are allowed in Bulldog stadium. I don’t think they followed that rule in Gonzales, but if other people are having to stop some fans at the gate for crowd control, I guess we ‘Cantu’.

Bulldog fans, please remember your masks and social distance.

Our cross country runners ran in San Antonio on Saturday. Big congrats to Burnet sophomore Hudson Bennett who finished his session in first overall with a 16:33. On the girls’ side Rose Flores placed third with a 13:01. Also medaling for Burnet was Andy Urista in ninth place.

The cross country teams will compete in Thrall this Saturday. Burnet Middle School will host a meet at Haley Nelson park next Wednesday, Sept. 16.

If you are looking for tennis action the Bulldog tennis team will be competing in Jarrell Thursday, Sept. 17 starting at 4 p.m.

The Burnet swim team will participate in time trials this Saturday before taking part in the Georgetown Sprint meet on Sept. 26.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading the Burnet Bulletin.
