The varsity Lady Bulldogs played two games last week, both at home with Llano coming to town on Tuesday followed by Fredericksburg on Friday.

Burnet moved their record to 11-0 with a big 73-27 victory over the visiting Lady Yellowjackets. It was already 17-6 after one quarter of play when Burnet put on a threepoint clinic in the second period. The Lady Dawgs cashed in five three-pointers in a row which helped to quickly advance their lead to 46-14 at the break. Burnet continued to dominate the visiting Jackets in the second half and when all was said and done team green collected the 73-27 victory.

Sydne Massoletti led the gym with 18 points. She made three shots from outside the arc and was a perfect five of five at the line. MaeSyn Gay was next on the chart with a dozen points scored for Burnet. She was followed by Gracyn Bennett, nine; Grace Gates, eight; Shelby Wagner, seven; Karley Denton, six; Makenna Gilmore, five; Haley McHam, five; and Addie Grace Hernandez, three.

As a team Burnet shot 83 percent from the foul stripe; Denton, McHam, and Massoletti were all perfect from the line.

On Friday Burnet faced one of their biggest challenges of the year. Fredericksburg entered the contest with a 12-1 overall record; their only loss happened in November on the road at Boerne. The Lady Billies took full advantage of a late Burnet drought to give team green their first loss of the season, 67-48.

Fredericksburg built a quick 10-2 lead in the first period before a Bennett three-pointer helped the Lady Dawgs inch closer. Burnet got to within three points but a run at the end of the period had the Lady Billies on top 20-11 after one.

Late in the second back-to-back buckets by MaeSyn Gay had Burnet only trailing by three, 30-27. The Lady Dawg faithful were soon on their feet as a three-point shot by McHam found its way through the hoop with just seconds remaining in the half; at the break it was tied up 30-30.

The third started out as a tight battle between two determined teams. The Lady Dawgs took their first lead of the night on a Bennett freethrow with 5:00 minutes remaining in the period, 36-35. The score continued to bounce back-and-forth and the quarter ended on two Massoletti freethrows with Burnet trailing, 45-42.

The fourth was disastrous for Burnet. Almost six minutes passed before the Lady Dawgs were able to cash in a bucket. During that time Fredericksburg posted 17 unanswered points elevating their lead to 62-42. At the 2:06 mark of the fourth Gates hit a three-pointer to end the drought, but more than enough damage had been done. The Lady Billies went on to win the game, 67-48. The loss dropped Burnet’s record to 11-1 and moved Fredericksburg to 13-1.

Gay led Burnet’s scorers with 12 points. She was followed by Massoletti, nine; McHam, six; Gates, six; Bennett, five; Gilmore, five; Hernandez, four; and Wagner, one.

The Lady Dawgs will return to the court on Tuesday, Dec. 29 when they host Blanco. The JV will play at 11:00 a.m. followed by the varsity. Burnet will also play on Wednesday, Dec. 30 hosting Liberty Hill. Their final non-district game is set for Thursday, Dec. 31 at home versus Eastview. District will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at Salado.
