From staff reports

The Burnet High School BBQ UnderDAWGS culinary team came home grand champions after they smoked the competition in the State of Texas High School BBQ Championship Regional Qualifier in Belton on Wednesday, Nov. 21.

The UnderDAWGS came out on top of six other high school teams, including students from Pflugerville ISD, Austin ISD, Leander ISD, and Goldthwaite ISD.

Each crew member took home an $8,000 scholarship to the Escoffier School of Culinary Arts and together, the team will advance to the State of Texas BBQ Championship, which is scheduled for May 3-4, 2019, at Burnet High School.

In addition to the competition, students had the chance to expand their cookout skills with a BBQ educational symposium, learning the basics from experts and mentors.
