The Bulldog athletic program is producing lots of winners lately. The Lady Dawg volleyball teams delivered six more victories last week with clean sweeps over both Lago Vista on Tuesday and Lampasas on Friday.

Coach Crystal Shipley and her staff have the Burnet volleyball program on a good path and the varsity girls look primed for another lengthy playoff run.

The varsity football team put themselves right back in the mix with a sweet 28-14 win in Marble Falls.

Bragging rights reside in Burnet! The Bulldog offensive line deserve big props; those guys created nice running lanes. Dash Denton was the biggest recipient surpassing the century mark on 20 carries. Denton was also named offensive MVP.

Dawg’s House… Sometimes the game plan doesn’t call for a flashy air it out passing attack, this was one of those games. The Bulldog defense held the Mustangs to an impressive 167 total yards of offense, seven passing yards, and the Dawgs intercepted two of their four passes. The Burnet Esprit de Corps hosted the Region 32 2A-4A Marching Contest, they were hands down the best show in town. The EDC earned first division at regionals and will be advancing to area. Their Firefly show continues to delight judges as well as all their fans and supporters. On Saturday they had some extra fans in the stands to cheer them on as the Bulldog football team showed up to support their classmates.

In tennis Burnet’s team tennis squad fell short to Cameron Yoe in the bi-district round of the playoffs. The Lady Dawg players did fantastic in their matches but as a group Burnet came up just short of advancement, 10-8. Individual tennis starts in the spring.

There was some golf in Burnet last week at Delaware Springs with the girls competing on the links. Be sure to check out this week’s story for their finishes.

Swimming hosted a duel on Friday, numerous swimmers and divers earned medals. The boys team dominated their side of the competition taking first with 416 points to Liberty Hill’s second place with 196 points. The Green Wave will be hosting the popular Hoot n Holler this Saturday at the YMCA.

On Monday the varsity cross country teams will compete in Huntsville for their regional races. Burnet qualified both their teams with the girls winning the district crown and the boys team earning second overall. It is believed, through research, that this was the first time ever a Lady Bulldog varsity cross country team outright won district. Congratulations to them on a job well done.

Burnet’s runners will participate in the 4A Regional girls race at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, followed by the boys at 8:30 a.m. The Dawgs believe they have what it takes to send runners back to state again this year. We will update you on that in our next edition.

It was a great week to be a Bulldog.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading the Burnet Bulletin.
