First off this week how about a big Attawaytogo to all of Burnet’s newly qualified state cross country runners. The Dawgs and Lady Dawgs competed at Regionals on Monday in Huntsville and after some great effort finishes they are moving three runners on to state. Hudson Bennett collected his fourth regional gold medal, legendary. Asah Roy will be heading to state with an impressive fourth place finish on the girls side. Victor Aviles will join Bennett at state after an outstanding fifth place regional finish. See more cross country results in this week’s edition. Next, I want to give a huge shout-out to the Lady Dawg volleyball teams. Our varsity girls have been on a fast track to a district championship this season and they sealed the deal last week with a 3-1 win over Gateway. The JV and freshman girls have been playing well also and all three wrapped-up district play on Tuesday at home versus Jarrell. Last Tuesday two varsi- ty girls were honored after Burnet’s 3-1 win over Marble Falls. Burnet senior libero, Addie Grace Hernandez, surpassed the 800 varsity career digs mark and Burnet junior, MaeSyn Gay, eclipsed the 700 varsity career kills mark. A big congrats to these two who still have time to add to those already impressive numbers.

We will update you next week on all the Lady Dawg’s district finishes as well as a better look at their upcoming playoff journey.

On Friday night the Bulldog football team gave it all they had in a tough game versus the visiting Canyon Lake Hawks. The Hawks earned the 28-14 win over Burnet to move to 3-0 in the district; sole possession of first place.

Davenport beat Lampasas, 55-34 taking over second place with a 2-1 record. Lampasas is currently in third also with a 2-1 record.

Taylor beat Marble Falls, 42-26. That moved Taylor to 1-2 matching Burnet’s current district record, while the Stangs fell to 0-3.

The road won’t get easier for the Dawgs this week, but they still control their own destiny in their search for a playoff spot. Davenport comes to town Friday and Burnet will wrap things up on the road at Taylor on Nov. 4. A pair of wins would be nice, but just one could potentially be enough.

There will be some extra celebrations this week with a bonfire on Thursday and parent/senior night on Friday before the kickoff. Get there early, let’s pack the stands for the Dawgs.

On Saturday I attended the first Annual BMS Zombie Color Run. It was a fantastic turnout for the inaugural run with around 200 in the 2-mile run as well as a large group in the kid’s fun run.

Congrats to everyone who made the trek but a big shout-out to sixth-grader, Gabe Castillo, who crossed the finish line first. No official times or finishes were kept.

That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading the Burnet Bulletin.
