As a spectator sport, the Burnet County and Llano County livestock shows are great events. So, if you have never seen youngsters put livestock they have raised and trained through their paces, mark the dates this weekend.

Burnet County

The Burnet County Livestock Show will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 4 – 6, at the Burnet County Fairgrounds, 1301 Houston Clinton Drive in Burnet. We are excited to announce a new scholarship opportunity for seniors. Substitution forms, scholarship applications, outstanding senior and other forms can be found at www.burnetcountylivestockshow. com. The purpose of the Burnet County Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H Livestock Show Association is to provide a stock show and premium livestock auction for youth.

Llano County

The John L Kuykendall Event Center, 2200 W Ranch Rd 152, (1.52 miles west of downtown Llano) will be the site of the Llano County Junior Livestock Show and Art, Craft & Food Show scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 4 – 6. Friday activities include a 4-H BBQ fundraiser lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In livestock show events, both FFA students and 4-H members take part in the 15 show categories, including Ag Mechanics, Future Feeders and Showmanship; Dairy, Angora and Boer Goats; Breeding Sheep and Market Lambs; Market Steers and Heifers; Market and Breeding Swine and Gilts; the opening ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, boys and girls will be delivering and grooming livestock for three days of events, culminating with the Premium Sale at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Following a Buyers Lunch at 11 a.m. on Saturday, another ceremony will include the presentation of special awards – Outstanding Senior, the Burnet Livestock Show Scholarship, Top Hand and Top Breeder.

Exhibitors all must be schooled in third-12th grade in their respective counties and all the livestock must be fed under the supervision of agricultural science teachers or Texas A&M AgriLife Extension agents.

But the glory doesn’t necessarily end here. The young exhibitors may go on to larger youth division shows in Kerrville’s Hill Country District, Fort Worth, Houston or San Angelo; even the State Fair in Dallas.

A full schedule and names of all the hard-working board members and judges can be found at www. burnetcountylivestockshow. com or check the upcoming special section of the Burnet Bulletin dedicated to recognizing their hard work.
