Burnet police are looking for the person or persons responsible for dumping nine dogs near the Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center during the holiday weekend.
At 8 a.m. Sunday, July 4, Burnet Police Department received a service call regarding animal cruelty, with the caller advising they had found a medium-sized female mixed-breed dog and her eight puppies near the parking lot of the Children’s Advocacy Center, 1001 N. Hill Street.
Upon arrival, officers had been advised the mother and her pups appeared to have been dumped at some point overnight between July 3 and the early morning hours of July 4. All nine dogs had been locked into a small, rusty kennel without food or water. They all were in need of medical attention and were covered in fleas.
The adult female was wearing a red nylon collar that was very faded, with small paw prints and bones embossed in white. The collar had a black clasp.
Police officers took custody of the animals and transported them immediately to the Hill Country Humane Society shelter in Buchanan Dam for care.
BPD is looking for the public’s assistance in locating the owner or owners of the dogs. If you have any information regarding the dogs or the person or persons responsible for dumping them, please contact BPD at 512-756-6404 or the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office at 512-756-8080.
