Candidates vying for political office and their nomination on the Republican ticket took the stage to debate issues on Thursday, Jan. 27 at the Burnet Community Center, 401 E. Jackson in Burnet.

The Burnet Chamber of Commerce, BCRW and Burnet County Republican women hosted the event.

Candidates vying for county, state and district races, arrived early to set up campaign booths prior to the start of the forum.

Among contentious races were county clerk candidates county human resources administrator Sara Ann Luther and chief deputy county clerk Vicinta Stafford who debated their qualifications. Stafford, who is the deputy county clerk, touted more than eight years experience in the office working for outgoing county clerk Janet Parker.

Luther, who is the county human resource director, expressed her goal to modernize and make county clerk’s office resources available into the south end of Burnet County.

All formats have involved the public submitting questions presented to the candidates in which each took about a minute or two or provide answers and responses.

The public had the opportunity to meet and greet the candidates in person prior to and after the candidate’s introduced themselves and took questions from a moderator.
