Burnet High School senior Rylea Whitus was named Rotary Club student of the month for January recently.

Whitus has been a student council member since her freshman year of high school. She was class president as a freshman, sophomore and junior and is serving as student body vice president this year. She also serves on the Prin

She also serves on the Principal’s Advisory Committee.

She participates in the AVID program and is a member of the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA). Through HOSA, she has helped with service projects such as canned food drives and Dell Children’s toy drives.

Whitus is active in extracurriculars as well. She has played softball and basketball and was a Regional qualifier as a powerlifter in 2020 and a Regional medalist in 2021.

She has served as a student trainer and a Highlandette manager.

In addition to school activities, Whitus is active in her church youth group and helps in the nursery. Her youth group participates in service projects such as working at the Stephenville Foster Children’s home.

He said she truly enjoys helping others. Whitus exemplifies service above self.
