Stock show arrives in Burnet County this week

Young breeders, builders and tenders from around the local area will show off their year’s work starting Thursday at the 2022 Burnet County Livestock Show.

The show runs from Thursday through Saturday with theculmination – the premium sale – on Jan. 8.

The 2021 products of livestock and agricultural mechanics will be put on display at the show as the competitors vie for the title of Grand Champion.

The schedule of events for the show is:

Thursday, Jan. 6

• Barn opens at 9 a.m.;

• Rabbit check-in at 9 a.m.; ag mechanics check-in at 10:30 a.m.;

• Dairy, Angora, Boer goats and breeding sheep check-in at 11 a.m.;

• Poultry sift followed by poultry show and showmanship at 11 a.m.; rabbit show follows the poultry show;

• Market goats and lambs check-in at 1 p.m.;

• Ag mechanics show starts at 2 p.m.;

• Dairy goat show starts at 3 p.m. followed by Angora goat show, Boer goat show and breeding sheep show, respectively;

• Market steers weigh and classify at 5 p.m.; heifer check-in at 5 p.m.;

• Market swine weigh and classify at 6 p.m.; breeding gilts check-in and classify at 6 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 7

• Market goat show starts at 8 a.m. followed by market lamb show;

• Market swine show starts at noon followed by breeding gilt show;

• Future feeders on display at 5 p.m. – no cattle or swine will be shown during future feeders;

• Steer show is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. followed by heifer show.

Saturday, Jan. 8

• The buyers’ lunch starts at 11 a.m. prior to the premium sale;

• Awards presentation for outstanding senior, scholarships, top hand and top breeder starts at 12:30 p.m.

• Show concludes with premium sale beginning at 1 p.m.
