The Burnet powerlifting team opened their 2023 season on Thursday with their annual host meet. This year’s event drew in an impressive nine teams and 174 lifters from all over Central Texas.

The Bulldogs entered 11 athletes in the men’s division and 10 in the lady’s category. Overall, Burnet’s boys finished second as a team, while the girls combined efforts to finish fourth.

“We had multiple athletes place in the top five of their weight class earning team points and medals,” said Burnet powerlifting coach Tyler McIntosh. “Coach Couch and I are super proud of how our athletes conducted themselves and of how they competed. We look forward to what the rest of the season has to offer.”

The Bulldog powerlifting team will be back in action this week as they travel to Lampasas on Thursday, Jan. 19. The Dawgs will also lift at meets in Llano, San Saba, and Brady before regionals. This year’s regional meets will be held in Dublin for the girls and Gatesville for the boys in March.
