Janessa Hardaway of CASA for the Highland Lakes Area hosted a Coffee with CASA gathering at BTX Coffee on Oct. 25.

The purpose was to have an informal time of sharing who CASA is, what they need, and how to be involved. According to Janessa, CASA is reaching out to the communities to bring more awareness about their program and the important role a CASA advocate plays in the life of a foster child.

She stated that over forty foster children in Burnet County are without a CASA advocate to be their voice in the courtroom and with social workers and other agencies.

The Friends of the Bertram Library hosted a Spooky Music BINGO event at Decadent Saint Winery on Oct. 24. Along with the prizes for the BINGO winners, there was also a prize given for best costume. The Friends are planning another BINGO event for Nov 14. This one will be held on the back patio of Fratelli’s and will be country music themed. Western attire is encouraged.

Chief Dewayne Kyle and his police officers hosted Coffee with a Cop at the Bertram Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The residents enjoyed the visitors. Chief Kyle has plans for more Coffee with a Cop dates in the future as a way of building rapport between the Police Department and the community of Bertram.

Holiday Events

Mark your calendars for two holiday events that are coming to Bertram. The city, the Bertram Chamber, and the Bertram EDC are joining forces to host the first Christmas Tree Lighting in front of city hall on Nov. 30 at 6 p.m.

In addition to the tree lighting by Mayor Dickinson, there will be holiday music, Christmas cookies, hot chocolate, and candy canes.

For the brave and bold, there will be an ugly Christmas sweater contest.

Secondly, the Bertram Country Christmas committee is hard at work planning this year’s festival, which will include vendors of all types, wineries, food trucks, craft beer from Save the World Brewery, a 100-yard dash for the kids, a parade, live music, a kids’ zone and much more.

Make plans to spend Dec. 2 in downtown Bertram, beginning with the race at 9:30 a.m., followed by the parade at 9:45 a.m. The festival will run until 4 p.m.
