After Saturday’s Burnet Consolidated Independent School Board election, three incumbents will be returning to the dais with one new face joining the board. The four places on the ballot were: Place 2, Place 4, Place 5, and Place 7.

May 4 election results

The following are the unofficial results of the May 4 election, according to the Burnet County Elections Administration office. Burnet CISD Burnet Consolidated Independent School District, trustee, Place 2, Angela Moore ran unopposed; Place 4, Ross Behrens ran unopposed; Place 5, Katy Duke (468 votes, 54.80%) defeated Amber Cardenas, (386 votes, 45.20%); Place 6, David Bennett ran unopposed.

Tax appraisal seminar offered

Property owners are receiving their 2024 property tax appraisals in the mail. Some property owners have reported that this year’s appraisals may be coming in higher than expected.

Education Foundation forms to support Burnet CISD students

A group of prominent community leaders have come together to form a foundation to support Burnet Consolidated Independent School District. The Burnet CISD Education Foundation has announced their focus to enhance community support and to expand resources that enrich teaching, inspire learning, and maximize opportunities for all students in the Burnet Consolidated School District.

Alleged child traffickers enter guilty plea

Special to The Highlander A couple entered a guilty plea on human traf- ficking charges in connection with a north Burnet County counseling center for children, who were allegedly used to further for-profit businesses. In February, co-defendants Gary and Meghann Wiggins pled guilty in the 424th District Court of Burnet County to six counts each of traf- ficking of persons, each of which is a second-degree felony.
