Burnet native Doak Field was among eight former Baylor University athletes who participated in an induction ceremony recently on the campus for the 2022 Hall of Fame.

During the summer the school announced that Field was selected as an honoree of the 2022 Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame.

Field joins Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III as the only other football player included in the 2022 class of eight athletes representing the sports of golf, baseball, track and field, basketball and volleyball, in addition to football.

Field said, “I have never considered myself to be Hall of Fame material. I had great coaches and was fortunate to have played on some very good teams. I owe any accolades to my talented teammates, dedicated coaches, and supportive family members and friends.”

Field was born in Burnet to Rick and Beverly Field. He grew up at Lake Victor and attended Burnet schools. Field was a threeyear Burnet Bulldog varsity letterman from 19741977 under Coach Ray Frady.

Field played collegiate football at Baylor University from 1977-1980, where he started at outside linebacker for 36 of his 46 games. A four-year letterman, Field became the starting strongside linebacker in game 11 of his freshman season. He is currently ranked seventh for Baylor’s All Time Total Tackles with 164 solo tackles and 166 assisted tackles.

Field’s professional football career began in 1981 when he was drafted in the seventh round by the Philadelphia Eagles. After retiring from professional football in 1985 due to persistent injuries, Field relocated to San Antonio where he gained success in the telecommunications and cable industries. In 2018, Field and his wife, Karan, returned to Burnet where they manage two small family ranches.

Organized in 1960, the Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame honors individuals whose participation and contributions have enriched and strengthened the university’s athletics program.
