A suspect faces burglary charges after reports of a man wandering through yards, entering a residence, changing into work clothes and trying to evade police, according to arrest documents.

The incidents allegedly unfolded around 2:24 p.m. on July 8 in the 300 block of Highland Drive in Burnet, when Burnet Police Department responded to the initial call.

Authorities eventually charged Henry Ledesma, 44, of Burnet with two counts of burglary of a habitation, after he allegedly changed into a homeowner’s work clothes, fixed himself a drink at the home and claimed he was in the neighborhood to find a date.

A homeowner told the BPD officer that she witnessed a man wearing her husband’s work uniform and “observed him sit down with a drink in his hand, on the couch in their attached carport,” according to the arrest warrant affidavit.

She told the officer that when she confronted him, “he grabbed his backpack and then ran north.”

The document continued, that a BCSO deputy in the area observed a male north of the residence throw a backpack behind a Jeep SUV parked in the roadway and throw an unidentified item under the vehicle.

The peace officer detained the man, who was identified as Ledesma, the affidavit stated.

The deputy reported that the male subject was wearing work clothing – previously described by the homeowner which included the owner’s last name on the exterior of the waistband.

According to the affidavit, the suspect denied being at the residence. He told the deputy that he was supposed to be in the area to “hook up with” a woman.

Upon follow up visit to the house, authorities found what they believed to be Ledesma’s clothing in the laundry room.

Authorities followed up with questions to area residents, who described a man believed to be the suspect in “their backyards around the time of the burglary,” and in at least two incidents was asked to leave. One witness told the investigator that she saw a man with a backpack entering the neighbor’s carport area.

The suspect was charged by Burnet Police Department and booked into Burnet County Jail where on July 12 he remained in custody on surety bonds totaling $50,000.
