Burnet neighbors offering plenty of holiday events

One year go on Dec. 9, 2020, the Mahomet Christian Church (DOC) burned.

The shock to the church congregation was great, but it was also a shock to the Mahomet community and the entire area as well.

Almost immediately after the arson occurred help began pouring in. It came from individuals and from other churches. Donations of time, money and materials were offered.

In January a demolition of the church building remains took place. Close to 50 volunteers participated in the demolition. Many of them were offspring of the pioneer families that were original settlers of the Mahomet community in the 1800’s. They came from various areas of Texas, some from as far away as Houston.

The church remembers with gratitude the efforts of so many people and especially the assistance of David Belvin and the Baker Family. The Tabernacle adjacent to

The Tabernacle adjacent to the original building received only minor damage and that has since been repaired.

Beginning in August the congregation began holding services in the Tabernacle on alternate Sunday Mornings. Those services still continue.

The church building burned, but the Mahomet Christian Church did not. Members of the church are in the early stages of plans for a new church building.

Oakalla Friendsgiving

Oakalla Librarian Tricia Pratt invites everyone to come to a Friendsgiving on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. at the Oakalla Community Center. The event is sponsored by the Oakalla Library.

It is requested that you bring a side dish to share. Turnkey and Ham will be provided by the Library. The number to call for more information is 512-525-3864.

Carol Singing at Oakalla Baptist Church

Oakalla Baptist Church is inviting people to join in a singing of Christmas Carols on Friday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.

Briggs Baptist Church Events

Briggs Baptist Church is hosting some December events and inviting everyone to participate.

At 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19 there will be a Christmas Story in Scripture and Song. At 6 p.m. on Sunday eve

At 6 p.m. on Sunday evening, Dec. 19 there will be Caroling under the Tabernacle. There will be hot chocolate, cookies, decorating, ornaments and more.

On Wednesday the 22nd there will be a Christmas Candlelight Service during this special evening service beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Santa Clause at the Oakalla Library

Santa Clause is coming to the Oakalla Library on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 6 p.m.
