After weather delays pushed their district matches versus Jarrell to Saturday Burnet’s soccer teams took to Cougar field with one goal in mind, earning a pair of important victories. The Lady Dawgs had the first game and in no time, it was evident who the dominant team was in this one.

In the first half of play Burnet’s girls jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Kaycie Banton put team green on the board first and just two minutes later Banton assisted Lainey Rye who made it 2-0 with a swift goal from the corner.

Amelia Griffin got in on the action with 10-minutes remaining in the half taking advantage of a Banton assist for her first goal of the night.

Before the break Brook Oliva netted a hardcharging goal putting the Lady Dawgs up, 4-0.

When the second half began Burnet’s girls went right back to work. With less that 2-minutes off the clock Griffin scored her second goal of the evening, 5-0 Burnet.

Just a couple of minutes later Burnet increased their lead to 6-0 after a Reagan Shipley corner kick was booted in by Haylie Bartlett.

Griffin finished out the game with a hat-trick goal at the 17:30 mark and when the final buzzer sounded it was all Lady Dawgs, 7-0.

So far, through three district games, the Lady Dawgs have outscored their opponents 22-1.

The girls have simply been dominating this season. They controlled the game from start to finish versus Jarrell and more than 90 percent of the contest was played on Jarrell’s side of the 50.

The Lady Dawgs played Lago Vista on Tuesday. They will be at Georgetown Gateway on Friday and will wrap-up round one of district play against Marble Falls at home on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

All three of those teams have winning records in 25-4A with the Lady Stangs being undefeated.

The varsity boys took to the field for game two on Saturday. The first 40-minutes of play was a defensive juggernaut and when the halftime buzzer sounded it was still a scoreless contest. Victor Aviles had a nice shot on goal in the first half, but it was well defended by Jarrell.

On the other end of the field, Burnet goalie, Adrian Rojas did a fantastic job keeping the net clean for the Bulldogs.

With 27:10 remaining, Burnet sophomore Cleto Leon broke the scoreless game with a nice goal assisted by Victor Aviles, 1-0 Dawgs.

Twenty-minutes later Burnet’s Miguel Valdez took a shot on goal that was beautifully defended by Jarrell’s goalie with a laid-out block, but Aviles was ready for the deflection on the left side of the net. With the ball still hanging in air Aviles made a leaping kick netting another goal and putting Burnet up 2-0.

The Dawgs continued to control the game down the stretch and celebrated their second district win when the final seconds ticked away.

The win moved the Bulldogs to 2-1 in district play. They played at Lago Vista on Tuesday and will be at Marble Falls on Tuesday, Feb. 14 to wrapup round one play.
