Lady Dawgs end tourney with four wins

After suffering fourstraight losses and dropping to 2-7 on the season the Lady Dawgs ended the week strong in the Stephenville tournament with four-straight wins.

Burnet’s first two losses of the week were one-point losses to Georgetown Eastview on Tuesday and Eastland on Thursday. Four of their season’s losses have been by a single point.

On Tuesday the Lady Dawgs trailed Eastview 6-0 after just two innings of play. Burnet continued to work and in the top of the seventh the girls in green scored four runs to take a 7-6 lead with just a half inning remaining.

Eastview knotted it up 7-7 in the bottom forcing an eighth inning. Burnet failed to score, and Eastview added one for the 8-7 win.

Maddi Moise hit two doubles in the game. Camrynn Guthrie and Elyse Dearcos also each hit a double. Singles were added by McKenzie Davis with two, Guthrie, Kyleigh Mott, and Journey Denton with one each.

Crawford pitched five innings allowing three hits, two runs, none earned, with 12 strikeouts and four walks. Mott pitched two innings with six hits allowed and two strikeouts.

On Thursday the girls traveled to Stephenville to play in the Honeybees Invitational. Burnet fell short in both contests on Thursday. The first a 6-5 loss to Eastland.

Burnet took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second, but Eastland recovered in the bottom of the inning 4-3. Burnet never regained the lead.

Doubles were hit by Moise, Lanee McCurry, and Denton. Singles were added by Davis and Mott.

Crawford pitched three innings allowing no hits and no runs with five strikeouts.

The girls second loss on Thursday was to Robinson, 9-0. Guthrie hit a double, Dearcos and Moise had a single. Crawford pitched allowing nine hits and nine runs, seven earned, with four strikeouts and three walks.

Burnet picked up two wins on Friday. The first was a 5-1 victory over Lorena. Moise led at the bat with a double and two singles. Guthrie also had a double. Other singles were hit by Denton, Davis, Dearcos, McCurry, and Kenzye Raiford.

Crawford pitched four innings allowing four hits, one run, with eight strikeouts.

The girls second win was a big one, 19-0 over Alvord. Burnet had 16 hits in the game. Triples by Guthrie, Moise, and McCurry. Doubles by McCurry and Halle Maxwell. Davis and Moise each had three singles, Addie Grace Hernandez, two singles; Denton, one; Carlee Williams, one; and Alexis Leatherwood, one.

Mott pitched the three-inning contest earning the no-hitter with no hits and no runs while picking up five strikeouts.

Saturday morning Burnet’s girls started off tournament play with a 5-0 win over Stephenville. Crawford hit a double, while Hernandez had two singles. Davis and Denton each hit a single as well.

Crawford pitched the five-inning game allowing just one hit with no runs. She recorded six strikeouts with a single walk.

The Lady Dawgs finished the tournament with a 5-4 win over Alvarado. Burnet had four hits in the game, all singles by Guthrie, Davis, McCurry, and Hernandez.

Mott pitched three innings allowing eight hits and four runs with three strikeouts and one walk.

Crawford pitched an inning allowing no hits and no runs with one strikeout and one walk.

Burnet hosted Canyon Lake on Tuesday. They will host their varsity tournament in Burnet this weekend.
