To make a positive difference in the lives of local children, the Boys and Girls Club of the Highland Lakes will host its largest fundraiser of the year which depends on community-wide support.

Club officials will host the annual Buckaroo Ball on Saturday Sept. 24 with this year's venue selected at The YMCA of the Highland Lakes at Galloway Hammond, 1601 S. Water (US 281) in Burnet.

Executive Director Bill Drake says the fundraiser is pivotal to annual support for programs and facilities.

“This is our largest event of the year and supports all our Clubs,” Drake said. “Private donations are what keeps the doors open.

“We receive less than 10% of our operation funds from federal or state grants,” he added.

The event will include dinner catered by Inman’s Barbecue in Llano, enter-tainment by Double Eagle Entertainment, plus live and silent auctions, a wine pull and games.

Funds raised will serve the Club’s five sites in Burnet, Marble Falls, Kingsland and Llano.

The Boys & Girls Club of the Highland Lakes has been meeting the needs of families and kids when they’re not in school since 1999. It is the only affordable out-of-school program.

By supporting the Club, contributors are also improving their communities. Annually, the Club serves up to 400 kids.

Depending on the time of the year, it can see between 250 – 350 daily. The average site is open 1,475 hours per year. For Buckaroo Ball
