A windfall of support from the local community culminated in one of the most beneficial fundraising event in years for facilities which serves local youth in Burnet, Kingsland, Llano and Marble Falls.

After the 2022 Buckaroo Ball on Sept. 24, officials reported the event grossed approximately $180,000 from sponsorships and auction items as well as donations.

“It was one of the most successful events that I’ve been ever associated with,” said Executive Director Bill Drake, hired in 2012.

Along with the auction, officials attributed the success to the 275 attendees, 37 table sponsorships as well as 50 event sponsors of the annual event. It was held this year at the YMCA of the Highland Lakes at Galloway Hammond in Burnet. Guests dressed western chic theme, along with a photo booth and fine dining were among the features.

Dependent on community-wide support, this year’s event delivered for children.

“It’s our largest fundraiser,” Drake explained. “It probably is 25 percent of our income for the year.

“Without it, it would be difficult to operate.”

Funds raised will serve the nonprofit organization’s sites in Burnet, Marble Falls, Kingsland and Llano.

The Boys & Girls Club of the Highland Lakes was founded in 1999 and is touted as the “only affordable out-of-school program.” Annually, the HL club serves up to 400 kids.

Depending on the time of the year, units see between 250 – 350 youngsters daily.

“It benefits all the clubs,” Drake said. “In light of the stock market, inflation and fuel prices, I was absolutely floored at the generosity.”
