Recently, the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees selected Aaron Peña to serve as the new district superintendent.

“We are delighted to welcome him to the family,” BCISD Board President Earl Foster said in a statement.

Currently, Peña is assistant superintendent for Administrative Services at Midway ISD. He earned his doctorate of education from the University of Houston Clear Lake and the University of Texas at Austin. He also holds a Texas Superintendent Certification.

“I am honored to join a community and a school district which deeply values spirit, pride and honor,” Peña said. “I look forward to leading and collaborating with its amazing staff to further develop its passion for learning, to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our students and staff and uphold its unwavering integrity in all aspects of our educational endeavors.”

The board search for a new superintendent began last December, soon after Superintendent Keith McBurnett announced his retirement. Through focus groups and surveys, district officials relied on input from parents, teachers, school staff and students to define the most desirable characteristics for a new superintendent.

As required by Texas law, McBurnett will continue as superintendent through the next three weeks. The board is expected to confirm Peña as the next superintendent during its March 25 meeting.
