The circumstances surrounding the death of an Alpine woman, first found unconscious in the roadway, is being classified as “suspicious” by the Burnet Police Department.

Texas Rangers are working with local investigators to determine what happened after 44-year-old Molly Klein was found at 5:48 a.m. on March 30 “lying unconscious in the road.”

Authorities were initially called to the scene the morning she was found in the area of East Post Oak and Vanderveer.

“She was unconscious but breathing,” Burnet Police Sgt. Investigator Steven Vollmar said.

The next day at 1 p.m. she was pronounced dead at Ascension Seton Hospital in Round Rock.

“She was taken off life support. Next of kin was present when that happened,” he said. “There was an autopsy conducted. She had a traumatic head injury … cranial pressure from head trauma, severe head trauma.

“We are categorizing this as a suspicious death,” he added.

A male subject, who was arrested on unrelated charges, has been identified as a “person of interest.”

“We’ve had several different versions of what could have happened,” Vollmar said.

During one part of the investigation, authorities dispatched to the Burnet McDonald’s on April 6.

“We believe we found some evidence that may pertain to this investigation, pending lab results,” Vollmar said.
