VFW to add to local district

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6974 of Burnet will soon have another post in its district as Fort Hood makes history.

VFW post 12209 is scheduled to be instituted on Friday, Jan. 7 at the U.S. Army base as the first VFW charted on an active duty installation in the contiguous United States.

The post will be named the CSM A.C. Cotton Post 12209 after the first known African American command sergeant major for the 1st Cavalry Division.

The new post will be put into VFW Texas District 14 with the Burnet and Marble Falls posts.

Fort Hood is hosting a ceremony on Friday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Phantom Warrior Center, 76544 37th Street, Building 194.
