A global COVID-19 pandemic could not stop the 54th annual Burnet County Livestock Show Premium Sale from setting a new auction sales record on Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Burnet County Fairgounds.
Burnet County Livestock Show chairman Brandon Evans said this year’s sale raised $493,372 — just under half a million dollars — in scholarship money for students who participated and showed their animals or ag mechanics projects. This mark shattered the 2020 record for the premium sale, Evans said.
“We had an incredible amount of support that the community showed the students of Burnet County this year in spite of everything and I want to thank everyone for their support and for helping make sure we had another successful show in spite of everything,” Evans said.
“We were able to get the show done and it went off without any major hitches and I want to thank our show leadership and (Burnet County) Judge (James) Oakley for allowing this show to happen when a lot of other shows in the area and around the state were being canceled. There were some things we had to change up this year in how we put on the show, but whatever it took to get it done for the kids, we were happy to do it.”
All visitors to the Livestock Show were required to wear masks, except judges and competitors when in the show ring, and seats were roped off to create proper social distancing.
