Decadent Saint Winery in Bertram is offering kisses from a gentle giant as part of a fundraiser for a rescue facility.

The newly opened winery is hosting a Saint Bernard Kissing Booth as a fundraiser for Luck & Legends Saint Bernard Rescue on Saturday, Dec. 18 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The event will feature show dogs and rescues available for adoption, a silent auction, games, music, charcuterie, wine and amazing cocktails featuring a unique selection of hard mixers from the winery in flavors like passionfruit, spiced blackcurrant, raspberry and a decadent dark chocolate mocha. After the event, take a bottle of the mixers home to enjoy for the holidays in your favorite recipes.

The Great Saint Bernard Pass, a mountain route that connected Italy and Switzerland, was once famous for attacks from Alpine bandits, making it a dangerous place to travel.

Bernard de Menthon, the Archdeacon of Aosta decided to address the problem by founding the Great Bernard Hospice as a refuge for travelers. The story goes that the monks bred the Saint Bernard to guard and protect the hospice residents. Because the dogs began to display remarkable abilities for finding travelers lost and buried in the snow, the heroic tales of the Saint Bernard began to circulate and grow, resulting in the image of this gentle yet imposing canine that we see today.
