October 15, 1947 —August 13, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Don Donelson, who peacefully entered God’s Precious Kingdom on August 13, 2023, at his home. Born on October 15, 1947, in Durango CO, Gary’s life was a testament to the values of love, dedication, and hard work.

Gary was the beloved son of Elton Ellis Donelson and Ruth Miller Donelson. Fol-lowing his father’s transfer to Post, Texas, Gary’s journey through life began. He gradu-ated from Post High School in 1965, setting the stage for a future marked by academic achievement and service to his country.

Driven by a passion for learning, Gary pursued higher education at West Texas State in Canyon, Texas, where he majored in Business. His thirst for knowledge was matched only by his commitment to his country. Gary served with honor in the US Army National Guard for 8 years, exemplifying the values of duty, sacrifice, and patriotism.

In the tapestry of Gary’s life, the family was his corner-stone. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Mary Frances Donelson, whose companionship brought joy to every moment they shared. He leaves behind his cherished stepsons, John and wife Kelly Stabler and Michael and wife Gulya Stabler. Gary’s legacy also lives on through his cousins, Joyce Ann (Charles) Pace of Snider TX and Donna (Gary) Goldfeder of Georgetown.

Gary’s connection to the land and spirit of the West ran deep. A true West Texas cowboy, he was as comfortable in the saddle as he was in the embrace of the wide-open plains. After a fulfilling career spanning 42 years in the oil and gas industry, Gary retired as a Chief Inspector from Tulsa Inspections, a testament to his dedication and tireless work ethic.

Throughout his journey, Gary explored the expanse of the United States, leaving be-hind a trail of friendships that enriched his life. His warm smile, genuine nature, and willingness to lend a helping hand endeared him to those fortunate enough to cross his path.

As Gary rides into the sunset of eternity, he is greeted by his parents and his brother James “Jimmy” Donelson who preceded him in death. Though his physical presence may be gone, the memory of his laughter, his wisdom, and his love will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.

A memorial to celebrate Gary’s remarkable life will be announced at a later date, allowing all who knew him to gather and pay tribute to a man whose legacy will continue to inspire for generations to come.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to West Texas Boy’s Ranch in honor of Gary’s memory.

In the tapestry of life and death, Gary Don Donelson’s thread will forever weave its brilliance through the hearts he touched. May he find eternal peace in the embrace of God’s Precious Kingdom.
