September 6, 1948 — May 24, 2023

0ur beloved “Nana” passed away May 24, 2023 at the age of 74. Judilynn Hollenbeck was born to Jimmie and Mary Barnett of Whitney, Texas on September 6, 1948.

Growing up in Whitney she enjoyed riding horses and cheering for her Whitney Wildcats. When Judi was 14, her family moved to Austin. Judi graduated from Reagan High School in 1967. After high school, Judi decided to pursue a teaching career. She graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science in 1971.

After graduation, Judi began her teaching career in San Antonio. Over the course of the next few years, she would teach almost every grade level in elementary and middle school, connecting with countless families and making a difference in the lives of her students. While still teaching, Judi continued her educational endeavors and re-ceived a Master ofArts in Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1981. This allowed her to become a school counselor. In this role, Judi’s ability to connect with her students and assist each of them brought her great hap-piness and joy. After moving to the Austin area in 1983, Judi continued in her role as a school counselor in both Leander I.S.D. and Georgetown I.S.D.

Following her retirement from teaching and counseling, Judi thought these would be her “golden” years. She was partially right. She got involved with the raising and competitive showing of Golden Retrievers and was presi-dent of the Austin Golden Re-riever club for several years. Judi started her own kennel called Halo Goldens and co-owned multiple champions. Judi never met a stranger and made so many lifelong friends in the Golden world. She truly united her love of people and animals during her “dog days” of retirement!

When she wasn’t working with her students or raising her beloved animals, Judi enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, as well as following the University of Texas Lady Longhorns basketball team. Judi loved to travel throughout the United States with her family while catching as many UT ballgames as they could.

Judi is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Michael Barnett.

She is survived by her husband Michael Hollenbeck of Beaumont, brother Don Barnett and his wife Lorie of Paige, son Christopher McCormick and his wife Samantha of Beaumont, grandchildren Meghan McCormick and Benjamin McCormick.

Judi wanted to share her favorite scripture, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power and of love and of a sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:7 A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday May 31, 2023, at Beck Funeral Home-Pflugerville, 4765 Priem Lane, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
