Julia Frances Daniel Bird (Judy) passed from this life to the next surrounded by her loving family December 6, 2020.

Her funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Jenkins Funeral Home with interment immediately following at South San Gabriel, Bertram, Texas. The family will be available from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. to greet friends.

Judy was born on March 29, 1939 to Claud and Eula Daniel of Bertram, Texas. She was valedictorian of the Bertram High School class of 1957. In addition to being an excellent student, she was the school drum major and played on the basketball team.

Judy had many friends at BHS and continued to keep in touch with them at annual class reunions where she enjoyed getting to know them in a whole new way as they grew older. Judy also was blessed with a beautiful singing voice. She especially enjoyed singing at the Bertram Church of Christ and around the family piano.

After high school, Judy attended Durham Business College inAustin, Texas, where she excelled. She held several positions as receptionist and administrative assistant throughout her career. For many years she worked for the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio in the President’s office and then for the Dean of the School of Allied Health.

During this time Judy’s eyesight began to fail. She faced this challenge as she lived her life - with grace and a delightful sense of humor. With the help of assistive technology, she remained a highly valued and respected team member until her retirement in 2001.

It was at Bertram that Judy met the love of her life, Duryl Bird. They were married October 11, 1958 at the Bertram Church of Christ. During their 62 years of marriage, they lived for a short time in Austin and Houston; then settled down in San Antonio where they joyfully welcomed their two children, Traci and Mark.

They were steadfast members of the Oak Hills Church (formerly Oak Hills Church of Christ). Faith, family, and friends were at the center of Judy’s life. She and Duryl served the Lord at Oak Hill Church for nearly sixty years. Together they worked in ministries serving the poor and the elderly, as well as welcoming visitors to the church. Their Sunday School class, known as Mountain Climbers, was full of friends who became family.

Judy and Duryl deeply treasured this group. Judy was an example of loving kindness and was loved by many, always finding qualities to admire in everyone. She was not afraid to care about and unconditionally love others. Besides her loving nature, Judy will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. Judy could find humor in most situations and this endeared her to others.

Left to cherish Judy’s memory are her beloved husband Duryl Bird, son Duryl Mark Bird of San Antonio, Texas, daughter Traci Goodwin and husband Paul of Madison, Mississippi, her two grandchildren who were her pride and joy - William Daniel (Will) Goodwin and Julia Kate Goodwin of Madison, Mississippi, and her cherished sister and brother-in-law Billie and Don Collins of Bertram, Texas.

She is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Eugene (Gene) and Barbara Bird of Burnet Texas, Sharlyn Bird of Lake Jackson Texas, Charlie and Claudeane Braun of Bertram Texas, and many nieces and nephews and devoted friends.

Arrangements under the care of Jenkins Funeral Home, Burnet, Texas.
