Larry Ellis Tucker, age 71, went to his heavenly home on December 27, 2023, after a year’s battle with ALS.
Larry was born in Burnet to devoted and hardworking parents, Ethel Inez Alderson Tucker and Vernon Ellis Tucker, on September 15, 1952. He has an older sister, Betty Tucker Haden, and a younger brother, David Tucker.
He had a happy childhood in Burnet enjoying a closeknit family consisting of his Grandma Alderson, many aunts, uncles, and cousins, whom he loved dearly and saw often.
He was a handsome and popular high school student. According to his mother, he was a teacher’s pet, although we can’t find any corroborating evidence of this. He graduated from Burnet High School in 1971, then attended Southwest Texas State University and University of Texas.
In 1974 he married Teresa Nyquist, also from Burnet.
As a young boy, he helped his father in his welding business and at a young age, had his first “official” job at Sunny’s Minimax in Burnet and briefly helped the local milkman with deliveries. As a teen, he worked summers as a brick layer’s helper for his uncle and then his cousin, becoming a bricklayer and stone mason until his marriage.
Soon after he and Teresa married, he enlisted in the Air Force for six years and served as an air traffic controller. During this time, their children, Nathaniel, Joel, and Leah were born. After leaving the Air Force he began work as a database designer, designing flight simulators for pilot training. During this time their youngest child, Julia, was born.
Over the years he owned landscaping and irrigation company and worked with different companies as a data center manager, network designer, and finally as the Director of Data Center Operations, from which he retired in 2019.
Teresa and Larry lived many places over the years and in 2000 settled in the home they are now in, in the country near Liberty Hill.
Larry could fix anything. He was an avid organic gardener planting a huge garden; loved tending his chickens; playing the guitar; composing music; writing poetry; and most of all loving on his grandchildren.
He is blessed with an extended family kept close by annual Alderson family reunions every summer, which continue to this day.
Larry is dearly loved and will be missed by Teresa’s family, which includes brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He and Teresa are blessed by their many children and grandchildren. Upon becoming a grandfather, his oldest grandchild named him Dinda, his very favorite name. The definition of Dinda is “like a grandpa, only cooler, see also, superhero; handsome.” And Dinda began a tradition of giving each of his children and grandchildren an “Indian name.” He carefully chose a special name for each person after prayer and listening as the Holy Spirit inspired each name.
His children and grandchildren are intensely broken-hearted by the departure from this earth by their loving, warm, witty, clever, entertaining, engaging, funny, and encouraging Dinda and the joy he brought. He was the best story and joke teller and pun teller extraordinaire. Their comfort is knowing that he is in heaven, a destination he looked forward to and that he is free from the crippling effects of ALS.
In his own words: “God is good. God does not lie. God keeps His promises. He loves me. He is merciful. He is able. He is my healer, my hope, my life. I owe him my life.”
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Teresa, and their children and grandchildren. Children: Nathaniel and Shanna Tucker; Joel and Christina Tucker; Leah and Eric Anderson; Julia and Zak Konys. Grandchildren: Elese Tucker English. Jude, Levi, and Benjamin Tucker. Jessie, Aubrey, Elijah, Corina, and Kaleb Tucker. Isabella, Dylan, and Adeline Anderson. Ruby and Ansel Konys. Great grandchildren: Indiana, Anettestasia, Tallulah, Maverick, Tucker, Hudson, Aurora, and Lucas. His sister and her husband, Betty and Bill Haden; his brother and his wife, David and Patty Tucker; his nieces and nephews; many cousins; and his dear friends, Dan, Joel, Bill, and Valerie.
Pallbearers: his sonsin- law, Eric and Zak and his grandsons, Levi, Benjamin, Elijah, and Dylan.
Larry’s Celebration of Life was December 30, 2023, at Jenkins Funeral Home in Burnet, Texas at noon.
Officiating is Pastor Charles Moran, the pastor of Larry and Teresa’s home church, Faith Impact Church of Georgetown. Burial is at Post Mountain in Burnet.
