Lois Marie Kroeger, 97, passed from her earthly life on December 7, 2020 in her hometown of Burnet, Texas.

A graveside service is planned for Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Burnet Cemetery, Burnet, Texas.

Marie was the last of 11 children born to Will and Minnie Pogue. She grew up on her family’s farm north of Burnet and attended the country school, Oak Hill, until she transferred into Burnet High School her freshman year. There she met the love of her life, Lloyd Kroeger, and was a Bulldog cheerleader until graduation in 1941. Marie worked as a salesperson in various businesses around the Burnet square. Her first job was right after high school graduation at Yarborough’s Variety Store.

Marie married Lloyd in November 1944 after he returned from WWII. They had two daughters, Cindy and Susan. Marie lived in Burnet until 1970 when she and Lloyd moved to Brownwood and then to Austin.

In 1994, Marie and Lloyd moved back to Burnet for retirement. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary last year on November 9, 2019. She was known for her buttermilk cake and sand tarts.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; son-in-law, Craig Middlebrooks; her siblings, Herman Pogue, Laura Pogue, Jesse Pogue, Jewel Cox, Alice Jennings, Lena Everett, B Pogue, Winnie Frazier, Kate Young, and Doris O’Donnell. Marie was the last of her generation of both her Pogue family and Lloyd’s Kroeger family.

Marie is survived by her daughters, Cindy Middlebrooks of Burnet and Susan Barnett and husband, Phil, of Burnet; granddaughters, Amye Dooley and husband, Tim, of Melissa, Lezlee Zorn and husband, Jeremy, of San Antonio, Lillie Thomas and husband Mark of Abilene; seven great grandchildren, Rex, Mara, Leyna, Karlie, Lily Kate, Kamber, and Kaylee as well as numerous special nieces and nephews.
