January 17, 1927 — March 20, 2023

The world has lost a good one. Robert Calvin (Bob) Dickens passed away on March 20, 2023.

Bob was a kind, affable and friendly man who loved people and was genuinely interested in their lives. He was “old school”, honest, kind, courteous and respectful; a frugal man but generous in his love for his family and friends. He valued old friendships and particularly enjoyed the morning breakfasts with old classmates for many years.

Bob was born on January 17, 1927, in Burnet to Hubert and Daisy Dickens and remained a Burnet man and a Burnet Bulldog throughout his life.

Bob attended Texas A&M University for a year after graduating from High School before joining the Army Air Corp. where he served as a corporal in Guam. Upon his return he resumed his education and graduated a proud Aggie in 1950. He went into the automobile business and retired in 1982.

Bob met beautiful Gay Kroll in 1953 and they married in 1955. They were blessed by the arrival of sons Clint and Keith. Gay and Bob spent many happy years traveling the United States, often with friends Billy Joe and Vonnie Fox, and the family of Harry and Donna Johnson. Bob also loved driving country roads and exploring small town America. He and Gay loved to dance and Bob was a great waltzer and jitterbugger!

Bob and Gay moved to Meadowlakes in 2005 where he enjoyed spending time with lifelong friends Ross Johnson, Dale Tucker and Guthrie O’Donnell, and playing bridge.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister Aline Sanford and brothers James and Bubba Dickens. He is survived by his wife Gay, sons Clint and Keith, sister Chick Woods, sister-in-law Jean Youngblood and many nieces and nephews.

As Bob grew older, he never lost his love of life, family and friends. This kind and decent man commanded the love and respect of all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

A graveside service for family and friends was held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 24, 2023 at the Round Mountain Cemetery with Reverend Ellen Ely officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those that wish to may give to the charity of their choice.
