It’s officially that time of year. Christmas is very near and in a matter of weeks kiddos all over will be ripping open perfectly wrapped boxes for new treasures they will find inside.

When this paper hits the stands we will be on a 25-day countdown for Saint Nics arrival but like most my group has plenty to keep us busy over the next three weeks. Between now and then we have a wedding, a college graduation, several birthdays, and numerous other gatherings and events that we are excited about attending. The last month of the year seems to fly by and it’s looking like this one will be no exception.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday and got to celebrate with family and friends. Our immediate group was all together which was nice. These days that’s hard to come by with all of our kids grown and living their adult lives.

During our downtime last week our oldest son turned 30 which we celebrated by taking a boy’s trip to the coast for some deep-sea fishing. The water on Saturday was a little rough but we had a great time and will be back soon.

Our middle son did not get to go with us on the trip since his Stephenville Yellowjacket football team is still in the playoffs and played on Friday night. It was an intense game for the Jackets who moved to 13-0 with a round three 21-17 win over Argyle. That victory has them facing Melissa this Friday night.

The Cardinals will no doubt be another test entering the contest 11-2, 6-0. They dropped their first two games of the year but have not been beaten since Memorial did it on Sept. 3 in non-conference play.

The district Burnet plays in, 13-4A still has two representatives left in post season play. Both Fredericksburg and Austin LBJ continue to pick-up playoff wins and the two will meet again this week just two steps away from a state berth.

Fredericksburg beat Somerset, 45-41; Calallen, 14-10; and most recently Pleasanton, 28-20 to earn a second shot at No. 1 state ranked LBJ.

The Jags crushed La Vernia in the first round, 54-7; rolled past Calhoun in round two, 72-42; and knocked off Boerne 68-24 on Friday.

At home the Bulldogs have plenty of basketball on deck to keep you entertained between now and the Christmas break. All of Burnet’s teams played at Marble Falls on Tuesday, and both varsity squads will be on the road for tournament play over the weekend. The varsity girls will be at Granbury, while the boys will be playing in Lorena.

The sub-varsity boys will be hosting a Burnet tournament on Thursday and Saturday.

That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading the Burnet Bulletin.
