For the first time in a dozen years the Burnet boy’s cross country team combined to qualify for a team spot at Regionals with a second place finish in district. Burnet’s boys were paced by their own sophomore district champion, Hudson Bennett, who claimed the 19-4A district gold medal with a first place time of 16:25.5. Bennett’s junior teammate, Andy Urista, posted a 17:10.9 for district bronze, and Carlos Leon, a Burnet junior, finished in the top ten as well with a ninth place 17:58.8 for the Bulldogs.

Burnet’s varsity girls combined scores to take fourth in district as a team. Lady Bulldog senior, Rose Flores, will join her male counterparts at regionals, as an individual participant, after earning a district medal on Monday. Flores finished first for Burnet with a ninth place overall mark by way of a 13:45.6.

Varsity Boys-Second place overall, 64 points

Hudson Bennett, first, 16:25.5; Andy Urista, third, 17:10.9; Carlos Leon, ninth,

17:58.8; Moses DeLuna, 24, 19:35; Matthew Silva, 27, 19:52.1; Devin Petterson, 30, 20:12.1; and Will Lewis, 36, 21:13.3.

Varsity Girls-Fourth place overall, 93 points

Rose Flores, eighth, 13:45.6; Autumn Stires, 14, 14:20.5; Brynn Holland, 21, 14:56.9; Cierra Blunt-Culpepper, 24, 15:00.5; Lainey Rye, 26, 15:19.1; Zoe Nicholl, 27, 15:21.4; and Caroline Rojas, 28, 15:22.7.

JV Boys

Diego Chavira, fourth, 19:48.5.

JV Girls

Juliana Suazo, eighth, 15:03.9; Haylie Bartlett, 13, 15:42.2; Halaina Rojas, 23, 16:41.2; and Dani Montalvo, 33, 20:01.6.

The Region IV Championships are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10 at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. The 4A State Meet will follow on Monday-Tuesday, Nov. 23-24 at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.
