After a long wait the 19-4A All-District softball selections were finally released last week and it was worth the wait for 10 Lady Bulldogs who were honored. Burnet placed an impressive six freshman, three sophomores and one junior on the list. Having 10 girls make the All-District list as the No. 4 seed out of the district is a big honor in itself.

Burnet’s freshman catcher, Camrynn Guthrie earned herself a superlative selection being named Co-Catcher of the year in 19-4A.

She was joined by three first team honorees including freshman, Kyleigh Mott; sophomore, Addie Grace Hernandez; and junior slugger, Savannah Gomez.

Second team selections went to McKenzie Davis, sophomore and Elyse De Arcos, freshman.

Four Lady Dawgs earned honorable mention including Abigail Aguillon, Kenzye Raiford, MaeSyn Gay, and Blair Gililland. That group includes three freshman and one sophomore.

Head coach Hailey Wooten has to be excited about the future of Lady Dawg softball in Burnet. Despite having no seniors on the team Burnet’s softball girls broke a lengthy playoff drought earning a post season ticket for the first time since the 2016 season, and that accomplishment happened in a pretty good district.

Burnet’s girls lost to highly ranked Smithville, the No. 1 seed out of their district in a best of three series, 2-0. Salado, the third place team out of 19-4A made it to the Area round before falling short to Carthage in two-straight.

Taylor went in ranked No. 2 and advanced all the way to the Regional Quarterfinals before also falling to Carthage in a three game series, 1-2.

The Lake Belton ladies were the final team from 19-4A to be eliminated. They played up until the fifth round when they lost to Liberty 1-2 in a best of three series at the Regional Finals.

Burnet will suit up nine letterman in the spring of 2022.

You may have seen the 2021 BHS football schedule that was posted last week. The Dawgs will face some good competition throughout the season. The Dawgs will play at Leander Rouse, Boerne, Brownwood, Lampasas, and Canyon Lake. They will host Marble Falls, Robinson, Fredericksburg, Taylor, and Austin LBJ. You can see the full schedule in this week’s sports section.

Before I close don’t forget about BHS summer camps and conditioning programs. Last week’s camps included football, volleyball, and band, this week it’s boys basketball. There is still time to get your kids involved. You can sign-up on the BHS website.

That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading the Burnet Bulletin.
