BCISD school board applauds student achievement
During the BCISD school board meeting May 19 held at the main office, students were recognized for academic, state and national achievements. The University Interscholastic League (UIL) Social Studies, Spelling & Vocabulary, Science, and Current Issues & Events teams were unable to attend the recognition ceremony since they are participating in Austin May 20 in the UIL State competitions.

BCISD AD resigns ‘to get to coach again’
After one year as the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District athletic director and safety officer, Steve Hale resigned. He announced his resignation in early May, calling the reason why “the right opportunity that came up.” He is joining the Trinity Christian Academy in Willow Park as the football program’s defensive coordinator, the athletic department’s powerlifting coach and track coach.

Bulldogs prove they’re all-stars leading the East to victory
The Burnet Bulldogs exceeded what a player chosen to play in the first Hill Country Coaches Association all-star football game is supposed to do. The contest was played May 17 at Texan Stadium in Wimberley.

Technicality drowns bill against quarry permits
Recently, one critical bill proposed to impose new regulations in Burnet County related to permits for facilities that produce or crush aggregate failed to pass parliamentary muster. During the ongoing-Texas Legislature 89th regular session, state representatives Terry Wilson (HD- 20), John Bryant (HD-114), Ellen Troxclair (HD-19) filed House Bill 5151 to regulate rock pits and quarries – specificially around two state parks and a children’s camp on Lake LBJ.

Council discusses strategic priorities, opposes rail line
The May 13 meeting of the Burnet City Council began with the council canvassing and certifying the results of the May 3 General Election. Gary Wideman was re-elected as mayor, while Ricky Langley, Joyce Laudenschlager, and Tres Clinton were all re-elected to serve as council members. All were sworn in to begin their new two-year terms.

She’s survived by her son, Rowdy Baker, her parents Johnny and Denise Gray, sisters Spring and husband Robert Price, sister Hope Clontz and brother Jonathon Gray and wife Melanie along with five nieces and two nephews and numerous other family members.

February 2, 1932 —April 29, 2025 She is survived by her brother, Ronald “Butch” Sayers, and his wife Janice, as well as her three children: Madeline Jordan Lewis (Ronnie) of Bertram, David Jordan (Sue) of Round Mountain, and Shirley Jordan Benavides (Felipe) of Littleton, Colorado. Maxine leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love, including 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
